Chinese Translation Service

The Blue South Chinese translation service covers both English into Chinese and Chinese into English. Dependant upon the target market, we distinguish between simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese. Further, we then recognise that there are subtle differences between  traditional Chinese used in Taiwan and in Hong Kong.

All Blue South translators are native speakers who Translate in Location™ which means they live and are immersed in the culture of the language that they translate into. As business translations typically involve a specific subject area, we use Topic Targeted Translators™ who specialise in the subject matter of your business.

The Chinese language is a tonal language and often regarded as a member of the Sino-Tibetan family of languages. Although Chinese is often mistakenly thought to be a single language, its regional variation is comparable to that of the Romance languages; variants of spoken Chinese can be different enough to be mutually incomprehensible.

Chinese can refer to spoken Chinese and written Chinese. For spoken Chinese, there were seven main regional groups including Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, or Hakka. Not only do they greatly differ in pronunciation, but there is about a 25% to 50% difference in their grammar and vocabulary, a difference notable enough to raise a doubt as to whether all Chinese dialects come from the same language family.

The Chinese written language employs Chinese characters (漢字/汉字), a system based on logograms, where each symbol represents a morpheme (a meaningful unit of language).

When requesting translations using traditional un-simplified characters, it should be noted that there are variations between Taiwan and Hong Kong (which both use traditional characters) which are similar to the differences between say US and NZ English.

In the case of names for places, people, companies or products, these are transliterated into Chinese characters. Care is required in this process, for more details »
